About Me

Welcome to Rosalie's blog! I hope that you get to know me a little bit better through technology.

Bug Festival, 2010
To begin, I am a current resident of Encinitas, CA. I absolutely love life by the beach and can't imagine moving to far from here. I grew up in Orange County and graduated from high school in Mission Viejo. After high school, I moved to Montana to start my college career as a veterinarian. After the first year of freezing cold weather and bad grades, I ventured back to California. I bounced around to several community colleges trying to figure out my post-graduation plans. I loved writing and decided to complete a BA at CSUSM in Literature and Writing. Turns out, there weren't many lucrative careers that allowed me to write. I started to substitute teach and was offered an internship in LA. I credentialed at CSUNorthridge. I taught for 5 years in Calabasas, had a baby, and decided it was time to be closer to family. I moved back to San Diego and am finishing my Level II credential at CSUSM. I have been a teacher for 8 years now and although education is inconsistent and dramatically changing, I hope to continue teaching in CA.

As for the technology continuum, I am a rookie. I can use a PC, Internet, basic word documents and PowerPoint software independently. I can text, upload photos, and create simple videos using Flip technology. As for Mac use, I am new and intimidated. I look forward to learning, blogging, creating, and designing projects that are Mac based. It just may take me longer than the average student.

Student-centered education should be a priority in education. It is amazing how far away the idealism of "student -centered" is in the current school system. (I will speak for elementary education/special education.) Budget-cuts, salary reductions, program improvement, teacher lay-offs, etc. do not necessarily foster a student-centered environment. CSUSM emphasises the practice and commitment to student centered, diversity, collaboration, professionalism, and shared governance; student success and personal achievement are a direct result.

  1. Hi Rosalie, nice to meet you! I also grew up in Orange County in Mission Viejo. My 3 older sisters graduate from Mission Viejo High School and I've supported many Diablos games over the years but I actually graduated from Tesoro. I completely agree with your thoughts on the Mission Statement and the priority of student-centered education. I believe that student achievement is highest when the teaching styles are centered on individual students.
